Bootie slippers are commonly worn by many different cultures today. In fact, many younger Americans today wear bootie slippers as outdoor shoes today as well. Because they have a rubberized sole and are very comfortable, many do not even think about it when they step outside in their bootie slippers. Over time, bootie slippers have evolved from a pair of leather soled shoes that were worn as a symbol of status to something that is considered an every day article of footwear that we slip on at the end of a day or lounge around in on the weekends. Just about everyone has a favored pair of bootie slippers that they are unwilling to give up for any reason. There are a wide variety of selections for bootie slippers today. However, in the beginning they were very limited. Japan especially is a country well known for the use of slippers. Any Japanese person knows they are required to remove their shoes when entering a home. The term slipper was derived from the phrase to slip and described the footwear that you slip into. Japanese also invented a special type of bootie slipper that slips on over the shoes as a way to ensure the floors in their homes were protected when inviting guests into their home. Bootie slippers are actually quite comfortable. Traditional footwear was rather flimsy and did not fully cover the foot. During the winter months, everyone wants to keep their feet warm and dry. Thus, bootie slippers were created which are designed to protect the bottom of the foot while surrounding the rest of the foot in warm, soft comfort. Many Americans today have at least two pair of bootie slippers. A lightweight pair for warmer summer months and a warmer, more durable pair for cold winter months.
